Art & Craft Club

The Art and Craft club takes place on a Wednesday afternoon from three O'clock until four o'clock. Places are limited to 15 children. Children from Primary Four, Five and Six classes take part throughout the year. They are joined by Primary Seven children in the second and third terms, when there are places.

The aim of the Art and Craft club is to allow the children to experience and enjoy all aspects of art & design e.g. painting, papier mache, collage, clay work and 3-D modelling. Children are encouraged to express themselves and to be creative in a relaxed environment. Classes are taught by Mrs McGrath.

Grainne Keilty a fine arts artist has been working with all classes for this term. She has used a variety of media developing art throughout the currivulum. Some of the forms children have worked with oils (printing) clay work, paper sculpture, bottle art, junk modelling and mosaics. Many of our children have thrown pots using the potter's wheel and had their finished pieces fired in our Kiln. The children have really enjoyed the experience. The staff have also been encouraged to be creative and to get involved in the project. A wall hanging in the reception area of staff portraits (rogues gallery) will testify to this displaying very little talent but lots of enthusiasm. As a result of Grainne's work we have beautiful 3D displays around our corridors and in the classrooms. Grainne helps to continue working with us to further develop the art/design curriculum next year and to create permanent pieces for our new school.
