Judo
Judo lessons every Friday afternoon
St Colman's Judo Club was established in 2005 and is a full member club of the Irish Judo Association (IJA). We have 20-25 boys and girls from ages 8-11 participating every week. Each member is also a member of the National Governing Body (IJA) and is therefore eligible to participate in Gradings (for belts) and compete in competitions all over the country. The Ward School of Judo Head Coach Ciaran Ward coaches the Judo Class at St Colman's.

Kid's perspective
Judo is an easy to learn sport. The club is taught by a coach named Eamonn Cunningham a professional Judo coach. The classes will take place on Fridays after school from 3:00 4:15. Judo fees are £40 for ten lessons per child.
We have asked Matthew Early who goes to Judo. He said that judo is brilliant!! Judo is suitable for p.3 and over.
It is a very safe sport as the translation means GENTLE way. We encourage children to join because it is fun as well. We play child friendly games like river bank, jogging round and north, south, east, west that all tie in with what we learn in Judo.
Classes take place every Friday in our school hall with class numbers around 20 for each session.
The children are working their way up the various levels of belts. Each child will be presented with its coloured belt at the end of the school year.
Judo develops co-ordination and agility and is equally good at giving self-confidence to the more timid child and self-control to the more aggressive spirit.
As not all children enjoy our traditional school team sports Judo is an ideal alternative activity. Although Judo is an individual sport, participation ensures that a child will still develop the important social skills associated with team play.
All budding Judo players from St Colman's should have a look at Ciaran ward's yamakwai club's website.
