Kool Kidz - exclusive interviews!
Friday 16 December 2011
This week Aoibh Robinson and Maciey Mazurek interviewed Rose McCullagh and the Primary 7 teachers about our amazing play - the Matchstick Girl.
Interview with our leading lady- Miss Rose Mc Cullagh -Primary Seven.
Did you enjoy having this role?
Yes. Because I enjoy acting and singing.
What was the hardest part for you to do?
Trying to be in character.
What was the most enjoyable part?
When I became an angel.
Did you know the story before we did the play?
Yes as my mum read me the story when I was younger.
Would you go for the leading role again?
Definitely because I really enjoyed doing that play.
Do you have an ambition of being an actress?
Maybe as I want to be a professional musician.
Now some questions for Mrs McGrath and Mrs Toland:
Were you happy with the outcome of the play?
Yes. Everyone worked really hard on learning their lines, practising their songs and performing their parts.
The audience seemed to enjoy the play as well. This is the real indicator of whether a play is a success or otherwise.
How did come up with the idea of this play?
We wanted to include the nativity in a slightly different way. The Match Girl's Christmas was perfect as we were both familiar with the story and it is one of Mrs. Devlin's favourites as well! We then tried to write in parts to include all Primary Seven Children.
Were you confident we were going to get it perfect?
We definitely were not as we only had a short time to practise. Mrs Toland and I had many sleepless nights!
Did you enjoy working with the children?
Yes. It was great for everyone in the year group to work together doing something completely different from class work. We were very surprised by the talent that the pupils demonstrated.
How did you decide the parts?
We concentrated on the singing parts first and held auditions with Mrs. Mc Clements. Then we tried children out for drama, speaking parts and dancing. Also some children requested non speaking parts and Declan Curran volunteered himself as stage hand and was a great help!
How do feel now it's over?
Delighted it went so well. Now we are starting on the Christmas decorations!
