What's happening this weekend?

Christmas Lights Switch-On in Belfast on Saturday at 6p.m


Date: Saturday 19 November 2011
Time: 6pm
Venue: Belfast City Hall
Cost: Free - no ticket required

Celebrate the countdown to Christmas with the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On at Belfast City Hall on Saturday 19 November.

Enjoy free family fun as Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile and guests light up the city:

Children's television favourite Justin Fletcher, star of 'Justin's House' and 'Something Special', will be performing his new song 'Hands Up' (please note, Justin will not be appearing as the character Mr Tumble.)

Postman Pat, who celebrates his 30th birthday this year and is about to star in his first movie, will perform a special mini-show to entertian the kids.


Fireman Sam will also perform a special mini-show. When a reporter comes to Pontypandy, Naughty Norman claims to be the local hero. Fireman Sam finds out but lets him take the glory; saving the day and teaching Naughty Norman the real attributes of being a hero!


Also there will be Pantomime dame, May McFettridge - who celebrates her 22nd consecutive year on the stage of the Grand Opera House when 'Jack And The Beanstalk' opens on 3 December.

And of course - Santa Claus. Cool FM's Pete Snodden is our special guest compere.

Christmas Continental Market - Mums and Dad love this too!


Date: Saturday 19 November - Monday 19 December 2011
Venue: Belfast City Hall grounds

The Christmas Continental Market will be at Belfast City Hall from 12 noon on Saturday 19 November to 6pm on Monday 19 December, selling a range of food, drinks and crafts.

Kids can enjoy the merry-go-round and visit Santa in his grotto! They can also post their letters to Santa using Santa's postbox.

Opening times
Monday - Wednesday: 10am - 8pm (except Monday 19 December when it will close at 6pm)
Thursday - Saturday: 10am - 10pm
Sunday: 1pm - 6pm


Santa's Postbox

Santa's Postbox is open in the grounds of City Hall from 19 November - 18 December. So local children can make sure they get their lists to Father Christmas in plenty of time for the big day!

Every child who sends a letter will receive a personal response from the big man himself!

What's it about?
The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation's hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, they're forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York's Central Park.
