Using Learning NI

We love using Learning NI

It helps us to find out information and the News desk helps us keep up to date. Our favourite thing is the discussions. We use it all the time... and I mean all the time. The www dots sometimes meet up at break or lunch or after school to plan things but when we go home we love logging on and planning our project.

It is a great way of communicating and planning

It is a great way of communicating ... and so cool! It helps us to plan what we are going to do. We planned a lot of our planet protection programme through Learning NI. Sophie and I were able to plan our posters and are recycling collections with RTU though our posts.

Find out exciting and important information... fast!

Last Saturday Mr Kernan put up a message that Carole from the cinema was coming out to see us on Tuesday and I found out within 4 minutes of him posting it! We also did a drama and had to reshoot it when Mr Kernan discovered something wrong with the sound when he got home. He was able to tell us to bring our props back the next day through Learning NI. These are a few things that would not be possible if we didn't use it.

Using Learning NI to ocllaborate and plan

Creating our own threads

Mr Kernan now allows us to create our own threads. I have set one up about our posters and website ideas. In under 2 weeks we have had 14 threads and 195 posts. If you count Mr Kernan (and how could we not) we are averaging nearly 20 posts. When we started it was new and interesting but now we just do it automatic and it was great for our planet protection week.

So.. spread the words

I am telling you about this because I want all the children in our school to know how good it is. It is fun, cool and practical and educational. Teachers like it children like it. I think that would be a good slogan. What do you think Mr Kernan?
Caoimhe Gillen - Protecting Our Planet

I like your slogan Caoimhe. Coimhe sent his article through LearningNI! (Mr Kernan)

6 at 6 - Our Vampire Challenge

On Tuesday the 6th of December everyone in our school was encouraged to turn off 6 items at 6 O'Clock. Vampire power is the energy sucked by plugged-in appliances that are on standby mode or otherwise turned off.

I took the challenge and then I went on Learning NI to say what I turned off. I then went on the website and voted using the poll (it is a t the bottom of the home page if you still want to take the challenge.

I turned of the play station, tv. my grandas radio. The light in my room and the light at the top of the stairs when I came down from my room and the oven after my mum cooked the dinner. Before I pulled the plugs out my Mum told me to make sure I turned the switch of first. I am going to turn of the laptop now.

I did at ten past five but I don't think Mr Kernan minds.

Using LearningNI for our vampire challenge

Our class uses Learning NI all the time. We used it to discuss our library trip and when we came home from the museum we talked about what we learned about dinosaurs and what we would like to learn in future. We also used it when we were learning sign language. We got to decide what we wanted to learn next by putting messages on Learning NI.
